Lester: Holt: Nearly 30 years ago TV audiences were captivated by a couple of undercover Bay City cops seeking justice. Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul starred in the incredibly popular series Starsky and Hutch. Now they're making cameos in the movie version starring BS and OW. (movie clip cameo shown)
Lester: Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul, so nice to see both of you. Good to have you here.
DAVID SOUL: Yeah that's 30 years later.
PAUL GLASER: Good to be here.

Lester: Fun scene. Fun doing the movie?
PAUL: Oh yeah, we had a good time. We were only on for a day but we had a good time.
Lester: Let me ask you. We of course introduced you a little while ago with the car, the famous orange Torino.
DAVID: Orange ? Red.
PAUL: He's color blind ... give him a break.
Lester: Tomato. Is this the firstt time you've seen it since the show?
DAVID: Oh, no, no, no. There's a lot of them ...replicas, you know, all over Europe . That's where I live, in London , there's several of them over there.
Lester: It's funny because when we were talking about you coming on everybody immediately goes, "Oh, I love S&H and the car." That was never the point.
DAVID: (turns to Paul and says to him) You heard it again. There you go.
Lester: You hate hearing that, don't you?
PAUL: I don't know. It's unbelievable.
DAVID: It got more..
PAUL: That CAR has become a character.
DAVID: It has.
PAUL: Yeah. It's become a character.
Lester:: Now what are you doing now? (Speaking to DAVID) You live in London ..
DAVID: I'm in London . I've been doing theatre over there for the last 9 years. and uh...yeah..It's good. I like it.

Lester: Paul, what are you up to these days?
PAUL: Well, ah, I'm kind of traveling around the country, you know, selling brushes (everyone laughs). No..
Lester: No! Come on, you're writing, right?
DAVID: That's a good one.
PAUL: (smiling) It's not bad. Ah..yeah, I'm,.. I've directed a bunch of features and I'm writing right now.. trying to put together, ah, some properties...and uh, doing a little acting, and trying to find a golf (closes his eyes as he reaches out to find his golf swing!) swing. (Laughs)
Lester: When you guys are seen together, because I know you get together from time to time, what's the reaction when people see you two walking down the
street?
PAUL: They break out in a real bad rash. (everyone laughs)
Lester: No, it 's...I mean, you're still Starsky to a generation. You'll always be Starsky.
PAUL: Yeah. Yeah..
DAVID: No, it's true. I think the longer that we're around there are fewer and fewer of those people out of our era that are still there, you know. It's kind of ....
PAUL: There's not that few. Let's not get carried away. (David gives a stern look at Paul)

DAVID: There's fewer and fewer. We're not chickens anymore.
Lester: Hey, we're talking my generation. There's plenty of us around..
PAUL: That's right. See you hurt his feelings.
Lester: (quickly and jokingly he agrees) You hurt my feelings. ... How did you feel when you heard they were going to make a movie of this, David?
DAVID: Ah....Ambivilant. You know, um, and then, ah, got into it and sort of said well that's a compliment, wait a second that's a compliment. Some kind of celebration..
Lester: Yeah, but did you have a role? Did anybody ask your advice or your thoughts?
DAVID: Actually, both Ben and Owen called.. ah.. Paul, I guess you spent time with Ben..
PAUL: Yep.
DAVID: Owen called me and spent a long time on the phone, ah, talking about the character, about the relationship and so forth. They're both wonderful guys.
Lester: How did he do with the part?
DAVID: He did great. He's got, you know, he's got his own sense of rhythm and his own timing and so forth but he's great. The guy's wonderful.
Lester: And Paul, Ben Stiller ..I mean the look ..he certainly had the look.
PAUL: Ben is a big fan of the show and, ah, and, ah, probably really, really, really studied it. I thought.. I told Ben I thought he pegged it. I thought
he really nailed it, you know?
DAVID: He did.
Lester: And what was it like when you walked on the set?
PAUL: Well, everyone was really nice. Very cordial. Very accepting. Ah, I got a few proposals.(everyone laughs, especially Al Roke rin the background at this very funny comment)
Lester: There's a couple of wacky scenes. In prison, Hutch swinging with a couple of foxes, Starsky gets high and David up in a dance off.. Would that have
happened on your show?
(Just like on S&H, Paul & David answer at the exact same time)
DAVID: Absolutely. (Pretending to be serious and sincere)
PAUL: Nooo. (very sincere as he starts to laugh.)
(laughter all around)
Lester: Absolutely and no.
DAVID: He says, "No." I say, "Yes." That's why the show worked.
PAUL: You know what's interesting about this movie is that in a, in a very careful way and tonally, they really got it, Todd Phillips got it, they kind of tipped their hat at so many elements that we did in the series, you know (turning to talk to David). There was that scene we did in the laundromat, you know, in the towels and we're wearing our guns and they..

DAVID: Yeah, yeah..
PAUL:..had the same kind of wardrobe but they stuck it in the, in the cops' bathroom/shower..
DAVID: That's rig ht...
PAUL: You know that scene, there's a scene where there's a question of whether they're crying.."Are you crying?" "No, I'm not crying. I don't cry."..you know, because in the show we cried.
DAVID: We watched the film sitting,.. sitting together and we kept punching each other saying, "Remember that? We did that.."

Lester: This movie is kind of a spoof but the original show didn't take, entirely take itself seriously.
(David's cell phone starts to ring!)
PAUL: Telephone call for you. Jeeesus, you know.. (Paul gives David a smirky smile as David looks at his phone and turns it off while everyone starts to laugh)
Lester: Who is it?
DAVID: It's from London .
Lester: OK. I thought maybe it was Ben Stiller weighing in. But the original show kind of made fun of itself.
DAVID: No, I'm busy. (as Lester contiues and asks the above question)
(David takes a breath as he is about to answer the question but Paul beats him to the punch)
PAUL: Well, the original show had a lot of levels to it . (looking at David) Now you get to..
Lester: Yeah, Dave..
DAVID: Well, that's what I was going to say just what Paul was just about to say..
PAUL: ...and I knew that. That's why I said it. (laughs)
DAVID: Yeah. (Laughs)
PAUL: Yeah, it had a lot of levels to it. We were very fortunate. We were able to do farce, you know, great comedy, drama, tragedy, act ion...
Lester: You also got slammed for being violent at one point ( the S&H theme starts)
DAVID: Yeah, that's interesting, you know. There was a Senate Sub-Committee Meeting.. (Lester rudely cuts him off mid sentence... (hate that.)
Lester: That's right. Well, we gotta end it right here.
DAVID: OK.
Lester: Paul Michael Glaser. David Soul..
DAVID: Tune in next week.. (Paul laughs)

Lester: Thanks for being with us.
